Job description

The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of our in-house payroll operations. You’ll be embedded in our Finance team (with a dotted line to HR), managing end-to-end UK payroll and supporting additional European regions in time. Your work will ensure everything runs smoothly, accurately, and in full compliance with all relevant regulations.

What You’ll Do

  • Run and manage monthly UK payroll processes, including salary changes, bonuses, pensions, starters and leavers

  • Act as the internal expert for payroll queries from employees and managers

  • Keep payroll records up to date and ensure HMRC and pension compliance

  • Maintain and enhance our in-house payroll system and tooling

  • Administer employee benefits such as pensions and ensure we are fully compliant with regulators

  • Own payroll reporting, journal reconciliations, and data analysis for Finance

  • Monitor UK and European payroll legislation changes to ensure the business is continuously compliant

What You’ll Bring

  • Deep understanding of UK payroll, tax, and pension regulations

  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy

  • Confident working within finance systems (e.g. HRIS, accounting software, in-house tools)

  • Proactive, collaborative approach—comfortable driving process improvements in a fast-paced team. Able to step into other areas of finance if needed.

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience with Xero for payroll/accounting

  • Exposure to a start-up or scale-up environment

  • CIPP qualification (or working towards it)
