A government agency based in London is seeking a Payroll Specialist to lead their payroll team and ensure compliance with legislative procedures. The ideal candidate will have a CIPP Level 3 qualification and at least 3 years of experience in payroll management. As a Payroll Specialist, your knowledge and experience will strengthen a key business area. In this role, you'll lead and support the payroll team, providing strategic direction to help plan for the future. You'll oversee all elements of monthly payroll delivery, ensuring completion of processes from monthly payroll to legislative start/end of year procedures, in compliance with HMRC deadlines.
You will identify initiatives to improve our ways of working, contribute to senior decision-making, and implement new technologies or support processes. Managing and developing your payroll team will be a key responsibility, ensuring ongoing professionalism and motivation.
Your role includes improving quality control, completing month-end processes, and managing internal and external relationships. Building a network of contacts who rely on your expertise and customer service skills is essential.
You will also pursue personal development through internal training, e-learning, and potentially CIPP qualifications, with flexible working options to support work-life balance.
The recruitment process involves application screening, interview, and vetting, including a Security Interview and criminal record check, with a possibility of a lengthy process up to 12 months.
Candidates must meet security requirements, including developed vetting and baseline personnel security checks if working with government assets.
To succeed, you should be highly organized, numerate, and experienced in managing large-scale payroll delivery. Strong interpersonal skills, a CIPP Level 3 qualification or 3+ years of payroll management experience, data analysis skills, and team management ability are required.
