Overview

Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: East Midlands (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days remote)

Salary: Up to £30,000 (DOE)

Contract: Full-time, permanent

The Role

We're seeking a Payroll Specialist to join a long-standing organisation with a large workforce. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who not only takes pride in accurate end-to-end processing but also has an eye for streamlining and enhancing payroll operations.

Working within a collaborative payroll team, you\'ll play a vital part in ensuring staff are paid correctly and on time, while also contributing to key projects and continuous improvements across the function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Processing UK payroll for a large workforce as part of a team of specialists
  • Handling end-to-end payroll including starters, leavers, salary changes, deductions, and adjustments
  • Managing statutory requirements (PAYE, pensions, year-end, GL reconciliations, etc.)
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, governance, and HMRC regulations
  • Providing clear advice to employees on pay-related queries, meeting agreed SLAs
  • Processing BACS payments to employees, HMRC, and third parties
  • Supporting year-end and start-of-year updates, as well as payroll-related testing and sign-off
  • Staying up to date with payroll legislation and applying changes as needed
About You
  • At least 3 years\' experience managing end-to-end payroll processing
  • In-depth understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance standards
  • CIPP qualification (or working towards) or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience within a high-volume, in-house payroll environment is advantageous
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organisational skills
  • Confident communicator, able to explain payroll matters clearly to employees
  • Familiarity with Zellis / ResourceLink software is a plus but not essential
