My client is looking to recruit a Payroll & People Advisor on a 5-month fixed-term basis.

We are seeking someone with a strong understanding of HMRC statutory absence legislation, along with knowledge of tax, national insurance, LGPS, and Teachers pension regulation contributions. System knowledge to undertake user acceptance testing is also required.

Accountabilities

  1. Ensure data input accuracy to guarantee correct payments and deductions, including statutory and contractual requirements such as pension contributions. Support and guide employees in using self-service where possible.
  2. Resolve complex payroll queries to meet specified timeframes within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  3. Manage payroll processes to generate payments to employees and third parties, including statutory reporting.
  4. Maintain the integrity and security of personal, contractual, and financial information in compliance with legislation and Council policies.
  5. Collaborate within a team to process and deliver high-quality work, ensuring the accuracy of outputs.
  6. Respond to customer inquiries promptly and professionally via various channels, including customer portal, written communication, or verbal interactions.
  7. Support service improvement initiatives and system testing to exceed customer expectations.

Additional requirements include:

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, working towards a CIPP qualification.
  • Experience with payroll systems delivering high-quality services.
  • Good knowledge of payroll processes including statutory payments, deductions, and pension schemes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide policy advice.
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and high-standard written communication.
  • Experience in a customer-oriented environment, handling queries, and continuously improving service delivery.
