Are you a passionate Payroll Professional ready to make a real difference? Our client, a dynamic organisation in the public sector, is seeking a Payroll Technical Officer to bolster their team for a fixed-term contract of 6 months. With a competitive hourly rate of £18.50+ (negotiable) this full-time position is an exciting chance to contribute to an essential service, paying approximately 15,000 employees every month!

In this pivotal position, you will support the Payroll Manager in managing an essential payroll service for approximately 15,000 employees, ensuring compliance and efficiency. You will thrive in a collaborative environment, where you'll work closely with various teams to enhance the payroll process and provide top-notch support and advice to customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with your team to deliver an effective and compliant payroll service that meets all legislative standards.
  • Maintain data integrity within SAP and other systems while ensuring compliance with GDPR legislation.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting service enhancements and implementing solutions.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing of payroll systems following software upgrades and legislative changes.
  • Liaise with the systems development team for configuration changes and perform thorough user testing.
  • Execute monthly and annual payroll reporting and reconciliation, ensuring timely delivery of essential documents such as payslips and P60s.
  • Support the payroll manager and administrative team with daily operations.
  • Perform regular reconciliations to minimise risks associated with financial penalties and maintain compliance.
  • Guide onboarding processes for new payroll businesses using the council's payroll system.
  • Maintain and update departmental procedures and guidance notes to ensure clarity and accuracy.
Qualifications:
  • 5 QCF Level 2 qualifications, including Maths and English Language.
  • A CIPP qualification or equivalent in payroll (or a willingness to pursue this).
  • Strong experience with the SAP system and a robust understanding of payroll statutory legislation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel, including the use of Macros/VBA.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a collaborative team spirit.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
