Job description

We are proud to be supporting our fantastic Manufacturing client with the recruit of an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will have proven Payroll experience, strong Excel skills, and proficiency in using time and attendance systems.


As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for managing Payroll processes and supporting HR functions. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently and contribute to continuous improvements within the department.

Role: Payroll Officer


Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 FTE


Location: Wakefield, WF1 with free onsite parking


Hours: Part time, 24 hours per week, with Mondays being a core day


Key Responsibilities:


  1. Manage monthly payroll processes and ensure accurate, timely payments for 150 employees.
  2. Handle tax deductions, report RTI for PAYE accounts, and process P11D's annually.
  3. Enrol employees into the pension scheme and manage monthly uploads.
  4. Liaise with payroll systems (Opera and Computime) and implement necessary upgrades.
  5. Set up monthly payroll and HMRC payments on the bank.
  6. Manage holiday entitlement and annual rollover on Computime.
  7. Ensure Computime time and attendance is fully utilized and weekly exceptions are processed.
  8. Complete agency timesheets within the required timeframe.
  9. Produce offer letters, contracts, and disciplinary letters for new employees.
  10. Support HR functions including right to work checks, probationary meetings, and disciplinary meetings.
  11. Issue Computime cards to employees and ensure correct access allocation.
  12. Ensure all documents are scanned and filed appropriately.
  13. Distribute new starter packs and manage their return, entering details into Computime and Opera.
  14. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection rules.

What you'll need:


  1. End-to-end Payroll experience.
  2. Experience using time and attendance systems.
  3. In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and pension administration.
  4. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with people at all levels.
  5. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage large data sets.
