Job description

We're recruiting on behalf of a large public sector organisation in their search for a Payroll Manager.

An fantastic opportunity to contribute to essential public services within a respected local government body, leading a dedicated payroll team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations that support employees and organisational efficiency.

The role:

  • Lead payroll process development and system improvements, including software updates.

  • Manage complete payroll and pension administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Ensure adherence to tax, NI, PAYE, and pension regulations with accurate reconciliations.

  • Oversee payroll financial reporting, audits, and budget monitoring support.

  • Respond to payroll queries and collaborate with HR on related matters.

  • Maintain payroll systems, reports, and liaise with external providers for compliance.

  • Manage payroll team, uphold confidentiality, GDPR, and organisational policies.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • Be a qualified full member of Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) or equivalent.

OR

  • Experience managing a payroll function including supervising and leading a team.
  • Experience in developing and implementing payroll policies, procedures and strategies that support organisational goals.
  • Experience with payroll systems and processes including administering pension schemes.
