Payroll Manager - 12 Month FTC (Maternity Cover)
Location: North London
Salary: £50,410 per annum + up to 5% performance bonus
Reports to: Assistant Finance Director
Contract: 12-month fixed term (maternity cover)

About the Role

We're partnering with a leading housing provider to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager for a maternity cover contract. This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for ensuring payroll and staff expenses are managed accurately and on time for employees delivering essential housing and community services. You\'ll also oversee pensions, credit cards, petty cash, and drive improvements in payroll systems and processes. It\'s a great opportunity for a payroll professional with housing or not-for-profit experience who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Managing the end-to-end payroll cycle including starters, leavers, variable pay, deductions and expenses.
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC submissions, Auto-Enrolment, pension schemes and GDPR.
  • Preparing payroll journals, reconciliations and management reports.
  • Overseeing credit cards, petty cash and related financial controls.
  • Leading payroll audits, projects and system upgrades.
  • Partnering with HR and senior stakeholders on payroll matters.
  • Line managing and developing a Payroll & Accounts Assistant.
What We're Looking For
  • CIPP qualification (or equivalent).
  • Strong track record managing in-house payroll systems and returns.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, pensions, and year-end requirements.
  • Skilled in reporting, reconciliations and accounting ledgers.
  • Excellent Excel and payroll/accounting system knowledge (Sun, Payrite desirable).
  • Housing, not-for-profit or care sector payroll experience - highly desirable.
  • Organised, detail-driven and able to meet strict deadlines.
