About the role
The Payroll Manager is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll operations. This role ensures employees are paid correctly, statutory obligations are met, payroll records are maintained, and payroll processes comply with relevant legislation and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for all employees.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time for each pay period.
- Continuous review and development of systems and procedures to ensure these are effective and being adhered to
- Review and validate payroll data
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiencies.
- Lead, develop, and support the payroll team.
- Co-ordinate with HR department to ensure accurate flow of information
- Oversee monthly pension reporting
- Prepare payroll reports and management information for senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations, National Minimum Wage requirements, and pension auto-enrolment obligations.
- Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation and implement necessary process updates.
- Manage year-end payroll activities, including P60s, P11Ds, and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate payroll audits and provide supporting documentation as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll certification
- Extensive payroll management experience
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems, (itrent experience desirable but not essential)
- Experience leading and developing a team
Skills & Behaviours
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pension regulations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and consistently meet tight payroll and reporting deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
