Job summary

James Gray Associates is seeking a Payroll Implementation Consultant in London. The role focuses on delivering end-to-end payroll consulting projects, including transformation and technology implementation, with a hybrid working pattern.

You will support UK payroll compliance, engage clients and internal teams, and contribute to best-practice processes across UK and international environments. Strong Excel skills and experience with major payroll tech are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong end-to-end UK payroll experience, ideally the full annual cycle.
• Solid knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NI, pensions, GDPR).
• Proficient with Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF).
• Experience with payroll implementation, transformation or consulting is a plus.
• International payroll experience would be advantageous.

Payroll Implementation Consultant

Salary: £45,000 - £60,000

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver payroll consulting projects, including end-to-end payroll reviews, process improvements and recommendations
• Support payroll transformation and technology implementation projects
• Provide payroll compliance and controls support across UK and international environments
• Assist with RFPs, vendor selection, pre-sales and bid development
• Work closely with clients and internal project teams to deliver high-quality solutions
• Support stakeholder engagement, workshops and client presentations
• Contribute to payroll best practice, thought leadership and process improvement

Ideal Candidate

• Strong end-to-end UK payroll experience, ideally with exposure to the full annual payroll cycle
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation including PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments, IR35 and GDPR
• Confident using Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, SUMIF and COUNTIF
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills
• Comfortable working with payroll technology such as SAP, Oracle, Workday or Dayforce
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ideally, experience with payroll implementation, transformation, consulting or payroll vendors
• International payroll experience would be advantageous
