Job summary

VanRath is recruiting a Payroll Executive for its client in Ballykelly, Northern Ireland. The role sits hybrid, with responsibilities spanning weekly and monthly UK payrolls, including hourly-paid and salaried staff, deductions, and pension contributions.

You will ensure compliance, maintain records and collaborate with HR, Finance and Production. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years UK payroll experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with Sage Payroll or Micropay.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years UK payroll processing experience.
  • Experience with weekly and monthly payroll processing.
  • Payroll for hourly-paid workforce including overtime and shifts.
  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance and payroll deductions.
  • Experience with payroll/time-and-attendance systems.
  • Sage Payroll / Micropay experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end processing of weekly and monthly UK payrolls.
  • Process overtime, shift allowances, deductions and adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and changes.
  • Ensure payroll is compliant with HMRC and company policies.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Submit HMRC FPS and EPS where applicable.
  • Complete year-end processes including P60s.
  • Support pension administration and auto-enrolment.
  • Maintain payroll and time‑and‑attendance systems.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance and Production to resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and automation.

Payroll Executive


Location: Ballykelly, Northern Ireland - Hybrid
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: Competitive, negotiable depending on experience

About the Role


A growing and well-established organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll Executive to join its Finance team and take responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of payroll across the business.
This is a newly created position offering an excellent opportunity to take ownership of payroll processes while working closely with Finance, HR, Production, managers and employees.
The successful candidate will have strong UK payroll experience, excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Experience within a high-volume manufacturing, engineering or production environment would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end processing of weekly and monthly UK payrolls, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Process payroll for both hourly-paid and salaried employees, including overtime, shift allowances, deductions, statutory payments and other adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records, ensuring all changes are appropriately authorised and documented.
  • Ensure payroll is processed in line with current UK legislation, HMRC requirements and company policies.
  • Calculate and process PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, student loans and other applicable deductions.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies prior to submission and payment.
  • Prepare and submit HMRC payroll information, including FPS and EPS submissions where applicable.
  • Complete year-end payroll processes, including P60s and relevant employee documentation.
  • Support workplace pension administration and auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Maintain payroll and time-and-attendance systems, ensuring employee and working-hours data is accurate.
  • Monitor hours worked, overtime and other payroll-related information.
  • Process new starters and maintain employee records across payroll and time-management systems.
  • Work closely with Production and Line Managers to resolve discrepancies between timesheets, recorded hours and payroll data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems, controls and automation.
  • Work collaboratively with HR and Finance and provide support across the wider business as required.
About You
Essential
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in UK payroll processing, ideally within a high-volume environment.
  • Proven experience processing both weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Experience managing payroll for a sizeable hourly-paid workforce, including overtime, shifts and variable pay.
  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and payroll deductions.
  • Experience using payroll and time-and-attendance systems.
  • Experience with Sage Payroll/Sage Micropay would be advantageous.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with payroll data and reconciliations.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity.
Desirable
  • Accredited payroll qualification.
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering or production.
  • Experience with North Time Data or similar time-and-attendance systems.
  • Knowledge of UK workplace pension administration and auto-enrolment.
