Job description

Service Care Solutions are working alongside Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue for a Payroll Coordinator, to join their team on a temporary contract. Please find a description of the role below.

Role: Payroll Coordinator
Location: Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
Salary: £16 to £17 (PAYE exc.) / £18 to £20 (Umbrella/ltd)
Working: 37 per week, on-site.
Contract: 3 months on going

To support the delivery of accurate and timely payroll services, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal policies. This role supervises payroll staff, processes complex payroll tasks, and provides expert advice on pay, pensions, and related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Payroll Advisor when required.
  • Oversee and process payroll operations, ensuring accurate PAYE, benefits, and pension contributions.
  • Supervise and support the Payroll Assistant with daily tasks and workload planning.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of new starters, leavers, and employee changes.
  • Monitor salary payments, perform payroll reconciliations, and manage adjustments.
  • Administer allowances, expenses, and car user schemes.
  • Respond to payroll and pension queries, translating complex information clearly.
  • Provide payroll data for reporting, budgeting, and third-party requests.
  • Experience working with SAP (desirable)
  • Tax/NI calculations and understanding of statutory HMRC payments
  • Attention to detail, efficiency and organisational skills
