Job description

Would you like the opportunity to join a progressive and forward-thinking Payroll and Pensions service?

We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as a Payroll & Benefits Administrator, bringing a wealth of payroll experience to our team of 21 exceptional payroll colleagues. Our office is located at Brittany House, Brest Road, Plymouth, near Derriford Hospital.

We provide payroll and pensions services for University Hospitals Plymouth and South Western Ambulance Service, producing approximately 230,000 payslips annually.

The ideal candidate will have a strong numerical aptitude and excellent analytical skills. You should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of payroll systems, including ESR, NHS terms and conditions, and statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, SAP, Student Loans, and Attachment of Earning orders. The successful candidate will report to the Payroll & Benefits Advisor.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, Priority, and 'At Risk' NHS staff across Devon, with relevant recent experience as per the Person Specification.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a formal interview as part of the selection process.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure payroll & benefits data is processed following service centre procedures.
  2. Provide statutory reporting information for client organizations.
  3. Manage day-to-day administration of car leasing schemes.
  4. Administer NHS Pension and NEST Pension schemes locally.
  5. Respond to employee inquiries and provide assistance and advice.
  6. Complete work in accordance with payroll processing timetables.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to service centre procedures and report updates promptly.
  • Plan daily workload to meet deadlines.
  • Accurately input payroll and pension data and resolve queries.
  • Assist in training new Payroll & Benefits Administrators.
Payroll Specific Duties:
  • Ensure payroll and expense calculations are accurate and compliant with relevant regulations.
  • Input appointment, change, termination, and pension forms accurately.
  • Analyze payroll and expense data to ensure correct payments.
  • Handle complex calculations and rectify payment errors.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll, expense, and attendance queries.
