Pets at Home is seeking a proactive Payroll Assistant to join our busy payroll team in Handforth, Cheshire. You will help administer payroll for around 9,000 colleagues on a four-weekly cycle and ensure timely, accurate processing across multiple payrolls.

The role requires solid knowledge of current payroll legislation, attention to detail, and strong communication. Hybrid working applies with one office day in Handforth and four days remote, and experience with SAP payroll is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience administering payroll in an office environment.
  • Solid understanding of current payroll legislation.
  • Experience with SAP payroll is advantageous.
  • Experience handling company cars and expenses is advantageous.
  • Organised, accurate, and detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook; able to handle confidential information compliantly.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for ~9,000 colleagues on a four-week cycle.
  • Calculate SSP and sickness entitlements.
  • Calculate statutory entitlements.
  • Process AOE and CSA deductions.
  • Process P45s and new starter checklists.
  • Assess staff for auto-enrolment into the pension scheme.
  • Reconcile pension contributions files with the provider.
  • Handle payroll queries to deliver excellent service.
  • Support P11D returns processing using third-party software.

Payroll Assistant

Location: Handforth, Cheshire (Hybrid working, 1 office day in Handforth, 4 days WFH)

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Payroll Assistant to join our busy Payroll Team based in our Support Office in Handforth, Cheshire. You will be part of a dedicated team that together administers payroll consisting of approximately 9,000 colleagues and growing, providing an efficient and effective payroll service. Key responsibilities;
  • Part of team processing timely, compliant, and accurate payroll for c9000 vet practice colleagues on a four-weekly basis across a number of payrolls.
  • Calculating SSP and Company sick pay entitlements.
  • Calculating statutory entitlements.
  • Processing AOE and CSA deductions.
  • Processing P45s and New Starter Checklists.
  • Assessing colleagues for inclusion into the company pension scheme in line with auto-enrolment.
  • Reconciliation of pension contributions files prior to submission to the pension provider.
  • Query management and resolution to deliver first-class service to our colleagues.
  • Support the processing of P11d returns using 3rd party software.
Skills required
  • Previous experience of administering payroll within an office environment is essential.
  • You will have a good understanding of current payroll legislation.
  • Previous experience of using SAP payroll solution is an advantage but not essential.
  • Previous experience dealing with company cars and expenses would be advantageous
  • The successful candidate should be well organised, work to a high level of accuracy and have keen attention to detail.
  • To ensure we deliver a first-class service, you will need to have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You will be required to be computer literate in Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • You should be an honest and trustworthy individual who is able to comfortably handle confidential information & adhere to all GDPR legislation.
