Overview

Are you an experienced Payroll professional looking for a part-time opportunity in a collaborative and supportive team? Our client is seeking a Payroll Assistant to join their friendly finance department on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a strong eye for detail when it comes to payroll processing and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and processing of the monthly payroll for multiple entities
  • Ensure accurate calculation of pay, overtime, bonuses, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), and deductions
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity within payroll systems
  • Reconcile payroll reports and liaise with HR and finance teams to resolve discrepancies
  • Support year-end processes including P60s, P11Ds, and PAYE reconciliations
  • Manage employee queries related to payroll and provide clear and timely responses
  • Ensure all payroll procedures comply with HMRC regulations and internal policies
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a payroll processing role (in-house or bureau environment)
  • Knowledge of UK payroll legislation including tax codes, NI, pensions, and statutory payments
  • Familiarity with auto-enrolment and pension submissions
  • Proficient in using payroll software (e.g. Sage Payroll, BrightPay, or similar) and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
