This position is offered on a hybrid basis with a minimum 3 days per week in our Lewes office

Salary: £27,942 per year

Hours: 37 per week
Monday – Thursday 9am to 5pm, Fridays – 9am to 4.30pm

Contract: Fixed Term contract for 12 months

What you’ll be doing:
Southdown is the largest not-for-profit provider of care, support, and housing in Sussex. We’ve been helping people access stable accommodation, mental health and care services since 1972, now counting over 900 people as part of our team.

As a Payroll Assistant you will support the Payroll Team Leader with the day to day running of Southdown’s payroll, ensuring staff are paid on time, accurately and that Southdown is compliant with all legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

What you’ll need for the role:
  • Proven experience in payroll processing and familiarity with payroll software and basic use of Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations
  • Good understanding of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements, tax codes, and statutory deductions
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills to meet strict deadline
  • Customer service skills: responding to staff pay queries and seeking resolutions
What would be nice:
  • Experience with HR systems or integrated HR/payroll platforms (I-trent preferable)
  • Knowledge of pension schemes and benefits administration
  • Basic accounting or finance background
  • Strong Excel skills, including use of formulas and pivot tables
