Duncan & Toplis is seeking an experienced Payroll Adviser to join our Outsourced Payroll team in Leicester. You will deliver accurate and efficient payroll services to clients, acting as the main day-to-day contact and supporting junior staff while ensuring compliance with payroll legislation.

You will liaise with clients, manage deadlines, and develop professional knowledge in payroll and pensions to maximise service quality and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Must have relevant payroll experience in a payroll bureau.
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team.
  • Proactive in managing targets to help the manager meet goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to produce accurate work under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of payroll and pension administration.
  • Develop IT skills to support client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned clients, delivering payrolls as required and per LoE.
  • Support the assistant payroll manager to develop team members.
  • Maintain high standards of client service and compliance with payroll legislation.
  • You will keep clients informed of significant issues and opportunities.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently and records are up to date.
  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for clients for payroll delivery.
  • Coach and supervise the team to develop skills and understanding.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to ensure service delivery standards.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and detail-focused Payroll Adviser to join our friendly Outsourced Payroll team and take responsibility for delivering accurate, efficient and reliable payroll service to our clients.

As part of the payroll team, you will provide a quality payroll service to clients, supporting the service line to achieve targets and ensuring operational objectives are met.

As a Payroll Adviser, you will have strong client relationships by providing a friendly, professional and responsive service. You will support clients with payroll queries, communicate clearly and accurately, and ensure their needs are handled efficiently while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail.

Skills and experience

  • You will manage your assigned clients, delivering payrolls as required and as per letter of engagement (LoE).
  • You will actively support and assist the assistant payroll manager to develop team members (processors and trainees) including regularly reviewing their work to ensure that client requirements are actioned.
  • Maintaining a high standard of client service and compliance within all relevant payroll legislation.
  • You will ensure payroll managers are kept informed of any and all significant client issues, including complaints and opportunities as they arise.
  • You will take steps to ensure that all work is completed efficiently, and that administration and records are up to date, in line with agreed procedures.
  • You will act as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients for the efficient delivery of your portfolio of payrolls.
  • Demonstrate exemplary communication skills, ensuring the flow of relevant information between clients and the bureau.
  • Dealing with all client queries, you will proactively fulfil client requirements and expectations, ensuring that relevant queries are escalated, and that action is taken to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Developing a working relationship with clients, identifying significant opportunities for more complex consideration, and assisting in all aspects of the company’s relationship with them to maximise yield and performance.
  • Ensuring that you keep clients informed of all impactful changes affecting their payroll.
  • Be fully conversant with relevant technology and adhere to our standard operating procedures (SOPS), systems and in-house software.
  • Actively supervising the work of the team; you will coach and assist where required to develop your service line’s skills and understanding.
  • You will take steps to ensure that any areas for improvement and development across all areas (team members, process efficiencies and systems) are effectively highlighted.
  • You will work collaboratively and cohesively, supporting the team to ensure that all work is completed on time. You will work as part of the wider team to ensure the overall bureau service delivery is met to the highest of standards.
What we are looking for:-
  • Relevant payroll experience (must have worked in a payroll bureau)
  • The ability to work as part of a wider team
  • Proactive in management of targets to ensure manager meets their overall target
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to create accurate work under tight deadlines and with quick turnaround times
  • Developing professional and technical knowledge as well as payroll and pension admin knowledge
  • Developing a broad range of IT skills to facilitate client requirements
