Our client is an ambitious accounting practice experiencing tremendous growth in its client base. Based in Edinburgh, they offer digital accounting consultancy, training, payroll, and virtual finance team services.

Over the last 24 months, the client has seen a significant and sustained increase in client numbers. As this growth continues, they are now looking to support their payroll team by recruiting a motivated individual to assist in this crucial service area.

There are strong prospects for advancement within the practice, including responsibilities for client management and supervising junior staff as candidates gain experience and progress in their studies.

Responsibilities

Payroll Tasks:

  • Process payroll for client employees accurately and promptly, following internal processes, controls, and procedures.
  • Handle new starters, leavers, and salary adjustments.
  • Calculate statutory pay and leave.
  • Manage holiday records as required.
  • Prepare manual calculations to verify work.
  • Ensure submissions are made to HMRC and pension providers.
  • Manage processing of payment files as needed.
  • Liaise with clients and their employees, providing information as required.
  • Prepare payroll journals and other ad-hoc reports as directed by the Payroll Manager.

Administrative:

  • Maintain accurate filing and record keeping.
  • Prepare and update process maps.
  • Assist the team with administrative tasks, including answering calls and handling queries.

Purpose Driven:

  • Participate in fundraising and volunteering activities.
  • Support client carbon reduction initiatives.
Who They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have completed the CIPP Payroll Technician qualification or equivalent, with at least 1-2 years of payroll experience.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of payroll routines and auto-enrolment legislation.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organization.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and ongoing training.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical behavior.
  • Effective communication skills for client interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and productively.
  • Support for the company's purpose and mission.

Additional desirable skills include:

  • Familiarity with payroll software such as Brightpay and Xero.
  • Experience with pension platforms like Smart Pensions, Nest, Penfold, and Peoples Pension.
  • Proficiency in Excel.

  • A salary between £26,750 and £31,000 FTE, reviewed annually.
