Payroll & Accounts Assistant
Maternity Cover till Feb/March 2026
Central Bristol
£30,000 - £32,000 + Bonus
Monday - Friday | 35 hours per week
Flexible Hours: 8:00-4:00 | 8:30-4:30 | 9:00-5:00

About the Role
We're looking for a proactive Payroll & Accounts Assistant to join a fantastic team in Bristol on a maternity cover contract. You'll play a key role in maintaining financial records across two entities, processing payroll and benefits, and supporting financial reporting and audit preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Processing invoices, expenses, and credit card payments
  2. Weekly cash flow forecasting
  3. Managing the purchase order (PO) process
  4. Performing monthly bank reconciliations
  5. Collating and processing monthly payroll data in Sage Payroll, and preparing payroll journals
  6. Managing benefits queries, liaising with HR, and collating benefit window information (including holiday purchases)
  7. Monitoring accounts and payroll inboxes, responding to internal and external queries
  8. Maintaining the fixed asset register and posting depreciation
  9. Updating accruals, prepayments, and posting relevant journals in Sage Intacct
  10. Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns and supporting data
  11. Ensuring monthly lead schedules reconcile to Sage
  12. Managing employee pension scheme updates, including salary changes and salary sacrifice selections
  13. Monitoring CAF GAYE applications, preparing monthly reports, and submitting payments to CAF
  14. Preparing and issuing fee schedules for counterparties
  15. Supporting the Finance Manager with data preparation for audits and statutory accounts
  16. Assisting with other ad hoc finance tasks as required

Key Skills & Experience

  1. Sage Intacct Accounts and Sage Payroll experience
  2. Strong bookkeeping skills and large journal processing experience
  3. Good working knowledge of Excel
  4. Experience managing and administering company benefits is desirable but not essential
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with excellent attention to detail
  6. Strong communication and organisation skills
