Overview

Payroll Accountant, East London (Hybrid working, 3 days in the office)

Salary: 28-32kpa plus benefits, 15 Months Maternity Cover

Our client, a global leader in their chosen field, with an excellent reputation, are looking for an experienced Accountant, with strong Payroll experience to join the business for a period of 15 months, to cover maternity leave.

This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of company payroll and all related payroll duties. The ideal candidate should also have a solid background in general accounting and be prepared to support additional finance tasks beyond payroll when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and payroll journals.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, intercompany, and fixed assets.
  • Manage the month-end close process and ensure timely completion.
  • Provide monthly cost analysis and commentary to support P&L reporting.
  • Handle UK payroll processing, including reviewing timesheets, calculating overtime/bonuses, and liaising with external providers.
  • Calculate quarterly commissions and ensure accurate bonus accruals.
  • Support payroll-related queries during audits and prepare monthly payroll reports for management review.
  • Process intercompany recharges and maintain accurate employee coding records.
  • Coordinate P11D reporting and ensure timely, compliant submission to HMRC.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Detail-oriented and proactive finance professional with strong payroll processing experience.
  • Solid foundation in general accounting and end-to-end payroll management.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE and P11D reporting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, and collaborative cross-functional approach.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions and month-end close processes is highly desirable.
