Job summary

LMAX Group is seeking a Payments & Settlements Analyst to join the Payments team in a fast-paced financial operations environment. You will manage daily payment processing and settlement activities across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

The role requires strong organizational skills, data analysis ability, and cross-team collaboration across time zones. Weekend on-call and UK bank holiday coverage are possible as part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Experience in payments, banking, financial operations, settlements or similar role is desirable.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day processing, reconciliation and investigation of payments across entities.
• Approve cryptocurrency withdrawals and fiat payments across custody platforms and banking platforms.
• Monitor intraday exposure to counterparties and ensure settlement obligations are met.
• Provide reporting and root causes analyses to improve processes and controls.
• Liaise with treasury, broker operations and other teams to resolve settlement issues promptly.
• Escalate operational issues and participate in control enhancements.
• Maintain relationships with internal/external stakeholders as the main contacts for payments and settlements.
• Stay updated with regulations and best practices in payments and settlements.

Job description

We are seeking a Payments & Settlements Analyst to join our Payments team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong interest in financial operations and payments to develop their experience within a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented and analytical, with a strong focus on accuracy. You will support the day-to-day processing, reconciliation and investigation of payments across multiple entities, working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure payments are processed efficiently and in line with established procedures and controls.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure daily fulfilment of both crypto and fiat settlement, identifying and flagging any defaulting parties.

• Approval of cryptocurrency withdrawals across in-house and third-party custody platforms, ensuring adherence to strict security procedures.
• Authorise fiat payments through various banking platforms, ensuring timely delivery of client funds and accurate record-keeping.
• Proactively monitor intraday exposure to counterparties and trading members, identifying shortfalls and working cross-functionally to ensure settlement obligations are met.

• Ensure all settlement activities are in line with operational risk frameworks. Provide reporting and root cause analysis on recurring payment issues to support operational improvements.
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure alignment between treasury, broker operations, functions to resolve settlement issues swiftly.

• Escalate operational issues promptly and participate in root cause investigations and control enhancements.

• Maintain strong working relationships with internal /external stakeholders, acting as the key operational contact for all payment and settlement matters.

• Monitor end-to-end payment flows, identify anomalies, and implement corrective actions in coordination with internal teams.

• Stay up to date with industry regulations and best practices related to payments and settlements.
• Excellent communication skills and an ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments and time zones.
• Work covering Monday to Friday with occasion weekend on-call and UK bank holiday work.
• Assist with ad-hoc/month-end projects and tasks as assigned by management.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Previous experience in payments, banking, financial operations, settlements, reconciliations or a similar role is desirable.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to review financial information accurately and identify discrepancies.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, spreadsheets and data analysis. Experience with macros is desirable but not essential.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of payment processes, banking systems and settlement procedures.
• Knowledge or experience of payment processing systems, TMS platforms or online banking portals is advantageous.
• A proactive approach to identifying and escalating issues, with a strong focus on following procedures and managing operational risk.
