A dynamic opportunity has been created within a well-established, mid-tier financial institution committed to innovation in the payment solutions sector. The organisation's focus is on maintaining a robust operational framework while continuously enhancing payment operations and risk management capabilities.

A highly motivated and skilled 1st Line Risk Specialist is sought to join the team. In this pivotal role, you will help safeguard the integrity and resilience of payment operations by ensuring strict adherence to policies, controls, and best practices. The role requires a strong blend of payment systems expertise and hands-on risk management experience, with a focus on designing, implementing, and strengthening operational risk controls.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary first line of defense for payment operations, ensuring adherence to policies and controls.
Provide independent oversight of payment processes, proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks.
Collaborate with teams to design, implement, and improve risk management frameworks and controls.
Conduct regular assessments of payment processes to enhance risk management and control effectiveness.
Contribute to the review, adaptation, and documentation of operational procedures and risk policies.
Deliver training and guidance to staff on risk management and compliance best practices.
Monitor and report on key risk indicators, providing insights into payment operations and risk management.
Coordinate internal and external audits.
Support risk control self-assessments and prepare governance reports.
Participate in the testing and implementation of new payment technologies.
3-5 years of demonstrable, focused experience in payment operations and risk management within a banking or financial services environment.
In-depth knowledge of UK and international payment schemes and regulations, including BACS, Faster Payments, CHAPS, and PCI DSS.
Proven understanding of cross-border payment processes and FX transactions.
Strong background in internal controls, compliance frameworks, and risk management methodologies.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with user access management and general risk controls.
Prior experience in a similarly structured mid-tier bank or a dynamic fintech environment is highly preferred.
Relevant professional qualifications in finance, risk management, or a related field are advantageous.
Competitive salary of up to £70k base, commensurate with the candidate's experience and location within the UK (London, Manchester, Cardiff).
