Job description

The post holder will work within the Maternity Directorate in a multidisciplinary team to promote a culture of staff and patient safety.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Co-ordinate, monitor, and develop risk management systems within the directorate.
  2. Support the maternity clinical governance manager in developing and implementing the clinical governance framework.
  3. Coordinate timely and effective investigations of incidents.
  4. Maintain high professional standards and ensure the delivery of high-quality midwifery care during ante-natal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  5. Provide professional leadership and mentoring to less experienced midwives and support colleagues in a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Work clinically 0.2 WTE weekly, including nights and weekends, either in clinical areas or as operational bleep holder.
  7. Represent the department at local, Trust, and system-wide meetings.
  8. Coordinate incident reporting and investigations into serious untoward incidents, including representing the directorate at trust-wide forums.
  9. Support independent investigations and interviews related to safety incidents, collaborating with the Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigations team.
  10. Facilitate an environment where patient safety and quality are prioritized, promoting participation, openness, and accountability.
  11. Support staff following clinical incidents, providing structured reflection and guidance.
  12. Lead local investigations on PSIRF responses, producing reports with recommendations and action plans to reduce risks.
  13. Manage incident reports, grading, and inputting data, and monitor trends using Ulysses.
  14. Develop close working relationships with the Patient Safety team, Trust Risk Manager, and Corporate Risk Management team.
