Job summary

NHS Highland is seeking a Financial Services Officer to join our Finance Team within the Expenditure area. The role focuses on processing financial transactions, supporting patients, and handling payments securely.

You will maintain records, liaise with suppliers and NHS staff, and ensure compliance and accuracy in all financial activities. This position is based in Inverness and involves cash handling, travel claims, and patient transport arrangements.

Qualifications

• Experience in financial administration such as accounts payable/receivable or cashiering.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients and families.
• Solid numerical ability and problem-solving for financial transactions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain financial records and process invoices in line with NHS procedures.
• Liaise with suppliers, patients, and NHS staff to resolve financial queries.
• Ensure security and compliance when handling cash, banking and transactions.
• Support patient travel services by checking, processing and authorising travel claims.
• Arrange patient transport (flights, trains, accommodation) often at short notice with hospitals and travel providers.
• Work in the hospital cash office, reconciling cash and managing patient funds.
