Responsibilities
- Provide patient care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Ensure effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment, and critical actions.
- Maintain ongoing communication with patients, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status and care provided.
- Participate in Unit/Department Performance Improvement activities.
- Welcome patients, check for proper identification, and prepare them for assessments, examinations, and procedures.
- Recognize opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction and respond accordingly.
- Provide care appropriate to the patient's age, including obtaining clinical data, performing vital signs, and documenting findings.
- Perform venipuncture and draw blood using proper aseptic techniques, ensuring correct labeling and processing.
- Perform EKGs and assist with patient transport, hygiene, and comfort care.
- Assist with patient feeding, dressing, and belongings management.
- Monitor patient intake/output, weights, and perform glucose finger sticks and other specimen collections.
- Provide post-mortem care as needed.
- Adhere to organizational standards and behaviors.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or equivalent program, or relevant medical background (EMT, Home Health Aide, CMA, MA).
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and demonstrate accountability and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or certification in phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, and blood sugar testing.
- At least one year of PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting or completion of a PCT program including clinical components.
Licenses and Certifications
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of employment.
