Overview:

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital on the Med Surg/Hematology Unit.

Hours/Shift:

Part-time, night shift, approximately 6pm to 6am, 24 hours per week.

Department/Position Overview:

This is a new, state-of-the-art 24-bed unit that offers a wide variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, and Stroke. Our specialty is caring for patients with chronic blood disorders such as Sickle Cell. Our staff members come from diverse backgrounds, enabling us to provide culturally competent care. Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff working under the supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated nursing care, support patient admissions and discharges, and ensure patient safety. They observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes to the nurse.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure:

  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum requirements include one of the following:
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
  • US Navy Hospital Corps School completion
  • Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic)
  • Current student in a clinical program with at least one semester completed (RN, LPN, RT, PT)
  • Recent work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant within last three years

Experience: One year of healthcare experience preferred.
