Wards Patient Care Assistant– Bristol Veterinary Specialists – Avonmouth, Bristol

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and friendly person with a strong passion for animal care and welfare. The ideal candidate should enjoy working as part of a very busy team but has the confidence to work alone. (Previous experience working within the veterinary sector preferred).

About the role:

The role will consist of 4 x 10 hour days working within the dedicated canine wards. We provide full training, mentoring and support to enhance your skills in advanced patient care.

(You will also participate in a bank holiday and weekend working rota)

You will participate in the following:

• grooming and feeding of patients
• general cleaning, stocking and maintenance of general wards
• assisting nurses with inpatient care
• checking and assisting with dispensing of medications
• assisting with some minor procedures
• restraining animals for treatments
• running lab samples
• assisting in other areas when busy
• generalised hospital up-keep such as laundry and following infection control protocols

What we're looking for in our Veterinary Patient Care Assistant:

• An excellent communicator with strong empathy
• Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with members of the public
• Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling and a high level of understanding of how to meet the welfare needs of animals
• Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
• A positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills
• Experience in looking after animals in a veterinary environment would be desirable
