Job summary

Huntsville Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Aide to assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses in direct patient care under supervision. The role focuses on basic hygiene, nutrition, mobility and patient transport, with support in isolation and standardized documentation.

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED, be prepared to certify in CPR within 90 days, and be able to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• CPR certification or capability to certify within 90 days.
• Willingness to work hours that include all shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work under occasional stress related to care of acutely ill patients.

Responsibilities

• Provides hygiene care assistance to the patient; positions patients and cares for patients in isolation.
• Assists with nutritional/hydration needs and elimination; collects and labels specimens as directed.
• Transports patients and supports ambulation; communicates patient status to the primary nurse and family.
• Obtains vital signs on admission or as directed; assists in admission, transfer and discharge.
• Explains care to patient and family prior to administration; answers questions within scope of practice.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization and composure under stressful situations; responds to emergencies.
• Documentation meets current standards and policies; assumes accountability for appropriate utilization of resources.
• Performs additional duties as assigned within the Patient Care Aide scope of practice.
