Overview

Job Summary: To provide a point of contact for the patients and act as a focal point of communication between the patients, doctors and other medical staff.

Job Description

Main duties of the job include:

  • Ensure each patient/visitor to the practice always receives a high level of customer care/service
  • Ensure that the patient journey is to a high standard
  • Monitor the flow of patients into the consulting and treatment rooms
  • Provide support to all clinical staff as required, ensuring communication with patients is maintained
  • Respond to queries and requests for assistance from patients and visitors, including assisting patients to complete NHS forms
  • Action admin tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure prescription requests are actioned where possible within one working day
  • Follow Practice procedures for opening/closing of all sites
  • Familiarity with all appointment systems, including variations
  • Book appointments and recalls
  • Provide a high level of service when covering phones and signpost patients appropriately
  • Answer phones promptly and handle queries effectively
  • Follow practice guidance for identifying and greeting patients when they call
  • Manage telephone and home visit requests, keeping patient contact information up to date
  • Participate in 121 meetings to review call quality and identify improvements

  • Liaise with Practice staff, other NHS organisations and outside agencies
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively, participate in meetings, and understand role/scope in the practice
  • Work as part of a team and maintain data accuracy, confidentiality (GDPR/FIO), and safety compliance
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and training; support practice development and policies

Qualifications

  • Essential: A sound general education to GCSE level or equivalent, or equivalent working experience
