Job summary

Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a reliable, personable and motivated individual to join our Pathology specimen reception team at St. Peter's Hospital.

The role supports the BSPS network across six laboratories and provides frontline reception to callers, drivers and staff. You will assist with receipt, prioritisation and pre-analytical processing of samples, operate basic devices like a centrifuge, and follow SOPs under supervision.

Qualifications

• Receipt, prioritisation and pre-analytical processing of potentially infectious samples.
• Use basic laboratory devices such as a centrifuge under SOPs.
• Regular interaction with healthcare professionals by telephone and in person at the reception hatch.
• Good computer skills for essential data entry.
• Good verbal and written communication; listening skills.
• Flexibility to work late shifts and weekends as necessary.
• Desirable understanding of basic biomedical terminology.
• Appreciation of the Trust's core values.

Responsibilities

• Assist with receipt, prioritisation and pre-analytical processing of samples.
• Operate basic devices like a centrifuge following SOPs under supervision.
• Interact with healthcare professionals, drivers, engineers and the public at the reception.
• Maintain accurate documentation and data entry.
