Job summary

A leading educational institution in Surrey seeks a Pastoral Support Assistant to facilitate the wellbeing and mental health of students. Ideal candidates should possess an undergraduate degree in Psychology or Criminology and have a background in learning support for challenging students. Your role will involve assisting students in managing their behavior and enhancing their learning experiences, contributing to a supportive and transformative educational environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a learning support assistant/mentor preferred.
  • Knowledge of various learning and behavioral needs.
  • Good general education levels in English and Maths.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and supervise children’s behavior during the school day.

The School: Pastoral Support Assistant - Wellbeing and Mental Health - Dorking

The school is based in Woking and provides support for children aged 9-16 years who have a range of learning and behavioural needs due to social, emotional and mental health challenges. All students that attend the school have a designated Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which details their specific needs in terms of the care and support they will have access to. The school provides a safe learning environment for children who suffer with high levels of anxiety which can result in a lack of focus and challenging behaviour.

The school is undergoing a transformation and are looking forward to their brand new, state of the art building and facilities. With that in mind, it’s a really exciting time to join.

What is involved: Pastoral Support Assistant - Wellbeing and Mental Health - Dorking - Education and Training

* Providing assistance and supervision for children’s behaviour during the school day and supporting their learning and participation in class
* Working 1-1 with students to help them learn ways of managing and controlling their own behaviours
* Recognising behaviour triggers and helping to de-escalate challenging situations
* Working with a class, a small group or individual learners, both inside and outside of the classroom
* Encouraging the development of social skills and supporting students’ individual needs
* Helping to build confidence and motivation
* Participating in team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team
* Supporting regulations pertaining to safeguarding

What is required: Pastoral Support Assistant - Wellbeing and Mental Health - Dorking

* An Undergraduate Degree, ideally in a relevant subject such as Psychology or Criminology
* Prior experience as a learning support assistant/mentor in a school setting, ideally for challenging students
* Knowledge and/or a keen interest and understanding of the range of different types of learning and behavioural needs
* Good general education levels in English and Maths – A Levels are preferable
* Good interpersonal and communication skill and a caring attitude

* Behaviour Mentor – Learning Mentor – Mental Health – Trauma
* £90 to £115 daily rate (5-day week - 8.30am to 4.00pm)
* May 25 start, or sooner for those that are available.
