Contract: Long-term/Permanent
Day Rate: 104‑115
Start Date: ASAP
Commutable From: Hackney, Newham, Greenwich, Lewisham, Waltham Forest

The Opportunity

Long Term Futures is seeking a committed and empathetic Pastoral Support Assistant to join a forward‑thinking and inclusive secondary school in the Tower Hamlets area.

The pastoral team plays a vital role in supporting pupils with social, emotional, behavioural and wellbeing needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people’s personal development, resilience and overall wellbeing.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group pastoral support for pupils with social, emotional or behavioural needs
  • Assist with early intervention strategies and monitor pupil wellbeing
  • Support pupils with attendance, engagement and behaviour management
  • Work with teachers, safeguarding leads and external agencies to provide coordinated support
  • Maintain accurate pastoral records and contribute to individual support plans
  • Help create a safe, supportive and positive school environment
  • Build trusted, empathetic relationships with pupils to promote progress and confidence
Requirements
  • Experience supporting young people in a school, youth work or pastoral setting
  • Strong communication, relationship‑building and de‑escalation skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection and pupil wellbeing
  • Empathetic, patient and resilient approach
  • Ability to stay calm and solution‑focused in challenging situations
  • Passion for supporting young people’s personal and emotional development
