Pastoral Support Assistant – Barnsley

Do you have experience working with children/young people with SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) difficulties?

Prospero Teaching is looking for committed individuals for a specialist SEMH School based in Barnsley.

Contract/Position Details
  • Location: Barnsley
  • Position: Pastoral Support Assistant
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: Ongoing – temp to perm contract
  • Full Time: Monday – Friday
  • Hours: 08:30 – 15:30
  • Rate of Pay: GBP 90 per day
Experience
  • Relevant experience in a school or similar setting
  • Experience working with children and young people with special educational needs and/or SEMH
  • Experience managing a class and leading learning with groups of pupils using appropriate strategies
Duties of the role include:
  • Supporting inclusion within the school
  • Being the first point of contact for vulnerable children who may display challenging behaviours
  • Attendance & Pastoral interventions
  • Liaising with SLT, parents/carers, and external agencies
  • Motivating and empowering students
  • Creating a positive learning environment
  • Listening empathetically and supporting students
  • Problem-solving

The students at this school have complex emotional and behavioural needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and SEMH, requiring additional support. Team Teach training is beneficial but can be provided for free.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate (or willingness to apply)
  • Two professional references
