We are working with one of our Outstanding partner schools in Sheffield to recruit a full-time Pastoral Manager to start in November 2025 on an ongoing basis. This is a critical role to lead and implement comprehensive student support strategies across the school.
The school is a large, highly popular 11-18 secondary comprehensive located in the South Yorkshire area, renowned for consistently achieving some of the best academic outcomes in the city and beyond. It is an 'Outstanding' setting with a profoundly diverse, inclusive community, proudly supporting over 30 different languages spoken by its pupils. The school is not only committed to student well-being but is a leading Teacher Training Hub, placing it at the forefront of national educational development and staff professional growth.
As Pastoral Manager, you will provide vital support and guidance to remove barriers to learning, enhance individual potential, and raise aspirations.
Safeguarding and Child Protection: Maintain expert knowledge, manage complex case files, and adhere strictly to all safeguarding policies, making appropriate referrals when necessary.
Team Leadership: Support and manage the pastoral team and other staff to effectively achieve well-being targets.
Crisis & De-escalation: Calmly manage immediate student welfare crises, emotional outbursts, and behavioural incidents.
Intervention & Mentoring: Arrange and develop 1:1 mentoring with identified students, providing specialist support for distressed individuals.
Transition Support: Actively support students through successful transitions to each key stage.
Data Analysis: Utilise information from Arbor (the school's MIS) and other sources (attendance, behaviour, rewards) to identify students in need of specific support.
Stakeholder Communication: Establish productive relationships and communicate professionally and sensitively with students, parents, Key Stage Leaders, and teaching staff.
Inter-Agency Liaison: Collaborate effectively with external services, such as CAMHS, Social Services, and the Police.
Case Management: Maintain meticulous, confidential records and monitor/evaluate student progress against individual support plans.
To succeed in this challenging but rewarding role, you must demonstrate:
Essential Skills
Meticulous Organisation: Ability to manage a high volume of cases, administrative tasks, and compliance deadlines.
Exceptional Communication: Outstanding ability to liaise with challenging parents/carers and write clear, professional reports.
Availability: Available to start November 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
Experience: Proven experience in administration and pastoral work within a school environment.
Compliance: Compliant and cleared to work in a UK secondary school.
Checks: Eligibility to work in the UK and an Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply).
