Pastoral Manager

Reporting to: Assistant Headteacher / Senior Leadership Team
Hours: 36 hours per week, Term Time only (39 weeks + 5 additional days)
Start Date: September 2025



About this Pastoral Manager Role:

To support the social, emotional and academic development of pupils through direct work with children and families. The Pastoral Manager will play a key role in safeguarding, early help provision, and strengthening family-school relationships to improve outcomes for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities of Pastoral Manager:

  • Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the school's safeguarding team in responding to concerns and liaising with external agencies.

  • Work directly with children and families, both 1:1 and in groups, to address issues affecting behaviour, attendance, emotional wellbeing and engagement with learning.

  • Provide advice, support and signposting for families in need, including access to Early Help services, parenting support, housing or financial services, and wellbeing provision.

  • Liaise with external agencies, including Family Wellbeing Centres, Local Authority services, social care, and other community-based support networks.

  • Monitor and improve attendance of targeted pupils by working with families to address barriers and implement early interventions.

  • Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and staff, offering non-judgemental support and promoting inclusion.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records using the school's safeguarding and attendance systems.

  • Support with school-based programmes such as behaviour support, emotional regulation, peer mentoring, or parent workshops.

  • Promote the school's vision of ambition, identity and society in all aspects of the role.

What experience do I need to work as a pastoral manager?

  • Experience working with children and families in a school or community setting

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and Early Help processes

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage sensitive issues with confidentiality, empathy and professionalism

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills

  • A commitment to inclusion, anti-racism, and community collaboration

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL experience or training (Desirable)

  • Knowledge of Brent Early Help systems and local support networks (Desirable)

  • Previous experience in pastoral, inclusion or family liaison roles in an educational setting (Essential)
