Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD is recruiting for a Head of Year / Pastoral Lead in the Lancaster area to lead pastoral care and behaviour for a year group. The role runs on a temporary basis until Christmas 2026 with an immediate start, supporting student welfare and academic progress.

You will work with form tutors, senior leaders, and external agencies to ensure students are safe, engaged, and reaching their potential through targeted interventions and effective leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience in secondary school pastoral or middle-leadership roles (Head of Year, etc.).
• Strong communication and conflict resolution abilities with calm, authoritative presence.
• Knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, behaviour management, and SEND support.
• Available for immediate start through to December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day welfare, attendance, punctuality and behaviour for the year group.
• Be the first point of contact for student, parent and staff concerns; manage interventions.
• Track progress using academic data, attendance and behaviour metrics to target support.
• Safeguarding: liaise with DSL and external services as key-holder.
• Lead Form Tutors and coordinate year-group assemblies and events.
