Job summary

Prospero Teaching in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Officer to support pupils' emotional wellbeing during the school day. This role focuses on building positive relationships, safeguarding, and delivering targeted pastoral sessions.

You will work with pupils with EHCPs and SEMH needs, support trauma-informed approaches, and collaborate with staff to promote attendance, engagement and safety within the school community.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in education, mental health, counselling, youth work, RMN or related field.
• Understanding trauma-informed practice and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on behaviour and learning.
• Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs, SEMH needs or additional learning needs.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Proactive, resilient and compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable children.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle for home visits.
• Team Teach training is desirable; full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Providing pastoral and emotional support to pupils throughout the school day.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with children to improve engagement, attendance and wellbeing.
• Supporting pupils with EHCPs, including those with high levels of need.
• Working with pupils who have trauma, including LAC and SEMH needs.
• Supporting de-escalation of behaviours using positive behaviour support strategies.
• Supervising corridors and communal areas to promote pupil safety and wellbeing.
• Providing one-to-one pastoral support and wellbeing sessions, incl. parent requests.
• Completing home welfare visits to support attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding.
• Collaborating with staff, SEND teams, safeguarding leads and external professionals.
