About The Role

We are looking for a dedicated Pastoral and Progression Coach to provide tailored support to our learners within the Enterprise and Employability Department. In this role, you will be committed to making a positive difference to young people’s lives whilst supporting and developing their learning. Your mentoring, academic support, and pastoral support will help enable an outstanding learning environment for our learners, providing the interventions they need to succeed.

The School of Enterprise and Employability offers a wide range of study programmes to both 16-18 and 19+ learners. Our course offers Level 1 Personal Social Development, Level 2 Enterprise and Employability and Level 1 and Level 2 Creative Craft for learners who are looking to develop employability skills for next steps, such as further education, employment or apprenticeships.

The Enterprise and Employability Department is a vibrant area with an exceptional and successful reputation for offering a ‘learning by doing’ curriculum. Our department is full of energy and passionate about what we do.

What You Will Do

  • Support a “case load” of students across the Enterprise and Employability department.
  • Give academic support, extra encouragement, mentoring and pastoral support to all students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Work with teaching staff to support the achievement of excellent outcomes for each student.
  • Support teaching staff where individual student behaviour within a group is impacting on the learning of the group as a whole.
  • Assist in the induction of the students into the curriculum and college life.
  • Using the Student Pro portal, ensure timely recording of achievements and progress, creating and monitoring SMART targets in negotiation with the student and teaching staff related to areas for development e.g. punctuality, behaviour, attendance at support sessions etc.
  • Develop a 1:1 relationship with a “Case Load” of individual students, meeting regularly to review progress against the action plan.

About You

  • Good general education at NVQ level 2 or equivalent including literacy & numeracy at Level 2.
  • Appropriate training and/or a willingness to undertake training in supporting the needs of disengaged/disadvantaged students who may have emotional and behaviour problems.
  • Experience of working/dealing with students, particularly age 16+
  • Experience of working with disengaged/disadvantaged young people in an educational setting.
  • Experience of working with schools, parents and external support agencies.
  • Have a good knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
