Job summary

Blackpool Council is seeking a Casual Passenger Assistant to support home to day care establishment, school or college transport. You will accompany drivers, assist with boarding and alighting, and help secure wheelchairs while ensuring safe, legal transport.

Successful candidates will undertake Passenger Assistant Training and a period of job shadowing. The role includes DBS checks and safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable users in the UK.

Qualifications

• Casual position with hours varying and a training pathway provided.
• Must complete the Passenger Assistant Training course and probationary shadowing.
• DBS check, proof of Right to Work in the UK and safeguarding requirements.

Responsibilities

• Accompany drivers in vehicles with passengers attending home to day care/school/college transport.
• Assist with boarding/alighting and wheelchair securement, ensuring correct restraints.
• Ensure passengers are transported legally and safely and communicate with users and carers.

Casual Passenger Assistant required for home to day care establishment/school/college transport You will accompany drivers in vehicles with passengers attending home to day care establishment/school/college, some of whom may have special educational, complex health needs or mobility problems and may be transported in wheelchairs. You will be responsible for the boarding and alighting of passengers, the securement of wheelchairs ensuring the correct restraint is used etc.. and that all passengers are transported legally and safely. You will work as part of a team with the Driver, and you will require excellent communication skills for dealing with face to face service users/parents/carers as well as professionals.

Successful candidates will be required to complete the Passenger Assistant Training course and satisfactorily complete a period of job shadowing.

Permanent positions are recruited initially from those who are casual. In general the hours are over a split shift with an outgoing journey in the mornings and a return journey in the afternoons.

Although this post is casual, the maximum hours that would be available would be between 15 to 20 per week.
