Job description

Dorset Travel coordinates the transport provision for children and young people with additional needs within Dorset as well as out of county. The team also supplies and supports transport needs for Mainstream, Child Care, and Adults.

A Regular Passenger Assistant is required from the Gillingham Area, contracted at approximately 15 hours per week - Term Time Only, commencing at £12.85 per hour.

The role of a Passenger Assistant is to support children and young people with additional needs, providing assistance and support in maintaining a safe environment on the journey from/to home/school.

This vacancy is to support a young person/s serving Yewstock School. Candidates need to be available morning and afternoon to coincide with school opening and closing times.

Dorset Travel is looking for caring, flexible, and responsible passenger assistants who have:

  • Knowledge of moderate and complex learning needs.
  • An understanding of safeguarding children.
  • Recognition of a hazard and how to report.
  • Customer Care

You must be physically fit with the ability to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry, and kneel to provide the care required for the position of a Passenger Assistant.

Dorset Travel is also an accredited training centre with experienced and qualified trainers. New staff will be invited onto a full induction training course, providing the tools and knowledge to enable you to work safely and professionally.

Please note you will need to have Business Insurance in order to attend Induction and Refresher Training.

We Base The Pro-rata Salary On

  • the number of hours
  • the number of weeks worked
  • paid annual leave entitlement for an employee under 5 years’ service

In the first year of service, this salary may need to be adjusted to ensure you are paid accurately to reflect your holiday entitlement. A similar adjustment may be made at the point your employment ends to ensure that you are paid accurately for the number of days worked in any academic year.
