Job Description:

Would you like to be part of a successful team turning Imperial’s research into inventions that tackle real-world problems? Join us and contribute to generating major impact across one of the world’s leading universities.

Are you a highly motivated individual with a passion for research and technology? Do you have a background in natural sciences? Would you like to be introduced to industry partnerships and develop your career in successful creation and management of partnerships? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to join us in supporting Imperial’s industry partnerships activities.

Based in our [location], you will support the Partnerships team. The main aim of the team is to maximize the impact of Imperial’s academic discoveries by stimulating, identifying, managing, and progressing opportunities to develop research and technologies through collaboration and commercialization.

Members of the Partnerships team need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the College’s expertise to respond quickly and effectively to enquiries and opportunities. A sound awareness of the external environment—markets, science and technology trends, industry news—is also essential for designing and implementing engagement and commercialization strategies.

You will gain experience in partnership creation and management. Imperial is a leader in industry-university collaborations and technology commercialization, working with leading global companies and world-class researchers to develop research and technologies through collaboration and commercialization.

Imperial recognizes and rewards collaboration and innovation. We pride ourselves on bringing tangible benefits to society by making an impact in industry and encourage academics and research staff to work across departments and fields to tackle industry challenges.

We foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem where businesses, researchers, and students collaborate. Join us.

As a service provider to [department], the successful candidates will work alongside experienced professionals on activities such as:

  • Supporting Partnerships Officers, Executives, and Senior Executives in generating and managing collaborative research, education, and translation opportunities with corporate partners, funded directly or via public funders like Research Councils, government departments, Innovate UK, and the EU.
  • Mapping internal expertise relevant to corporate opportunities within natural sciences sectors.
  • Conducting market research, monitoring emerging trends, sector analysis, and understanding industrial strategies to support technology development.
  • Creating marketing materials and planning engagement activities (presentations, workshops, showcasing events).
  • Drafting communications to external partners (industry, government) to promote engagement opportunities and funding.
  • Assisting with due diligence on industry partners.
  • Managing own work activities independently to contribute to team objectives and improve efficiency.

We seek applicants passionate about industry-academia collaborations, with a background in physics, chemistry, computer sciences, or mathematics, preferably with MSc or PhD. Experience in academic or industry environments related to technology or partnerships management is highly desirable.

Strong delivery focus, excellent communication, and administrative skills, along with a keen interest in industry partnerships, are essential.

This role offers opportunities to enhance careers as Partnerships Officer, Translation Officer, Research Assistant, or similar roles within technology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, higher education, or government sectors.

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including 39 days off per year and generous pension schemes.
  • Workplace benefits such as flexible working, family leave, on-site leisure facilities, and cycle-to-work schemes.
  • Interest-free season ticket loans.
  • Supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work culture with resources for personal and professional development.
