Job Description:

About Bowel Cancer UK

We’re the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease, and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

We currently have around 95 staff based in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re in a privileged position to grow our staff team to deliver our ambitious strategy, "On a mission." There are huge challenges facing bowel cancer patients across the UK, and our community needs us now more than ever. We’re building a strong and united team to bring us closer to a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and at Bowel Cancer UK, we are committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Successful candidates may be subject to either a satisfactory basic, standard, or enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), depending on the role.

Job Summary

We’re hiring a motivated and ambitious team assistant to join our collaborative and dynamic Partnerships and Philanthropy fundraising team. Our ideal candidate will be a team player, highly organized, and attentive to detail. In this role, you’ll coordinate various team activities, ensure our systems and processes operate smoothly, identify new donors, and help our supporters feel valued and inspired throughout their journey with Bowel Cancer UK.

You’ll also gain hands-on fundraising experience, including writing proposals to secure grants from trusts and foundations and supporting our corporate partners in fundraising efforts.

Your contributions will be vital in helping our team reach ambitious fundraising targets and ultimately improve the lives of those affected by bowel cancer.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the delivery of the Partnership team’s new business activities, such as identifying corporate prospects, updating the Charity of the Year list, and managing pipelines.
  • Assist in delivering successful corporate partnerships, such as supporting companies in running challenge events or fundraisers.
  • Write inspiring thank you letters and reports for supporters.
  • Respond to queries and opportunities received through the partnerships inbox.
  • Potentially manage a portfolio of small trusts, foundations, and corporate partners by writing compelling bids and updates.

Ensuring smooth processes

  • Help keep the charity’s supporter database (Raisers Edge) up to date.
  • Support the Partnerships team by attending meetings, taking notes, and circulating actions.
  • Assist the Interim Directorate Officer with managing income and expenses at the team level.

Other duties

  • Ensure compliance with current fundraising regulations and guidance.
  • Attend training sessions and conferences, sharing learnings with the team.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Partnerships and Philanthropy team and the Director of Fundraising.

The knowledge, skills, and qualities you'll bring to the role

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to contribute to team planning and discussions.
  • Warm, friendly demeanor and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated, able to initiate and complete tasks independently.
  • Understanding and commitment to the values and objectives of the charity.
  • Dedication to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
