Job description

Part-Time Year 5 SEN Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Support (Mornings Only)

Location: BS3

Hours: 8:30am - 12:30pm, Monday to Friday

Start: Septmeber

Academics is working with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Bristol seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 5 pupil who is currently at risk of permanent exclusion. This is a part-time, mornings-only role, ideal for someone with a calm, resilient approach and experience supporting children with SEMH needs.

About the Role:

* Deliver tailored 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil, working outside the classroom on a structured morning programme

* Facilitate regular movement breaks and supervise outdoor sessions with a small, consistent peer group

* Support a child with an SEMH profile, currently undergoing assessment for ADHD and Autism, and with an EHCP in place

* Use low-arousal, consistent strategies-such as tactical ignoring-to manage verbal dysregulation, including inappropriate or sarcastic remarks

* Remain mindful of the pupil's history of physical dysregulation and previous incidents of absconding

* Establish a strong, positive relationship through shared interests; the pupil engages particularly well with adults who are enthusiastic about sports.

What We're Looking For:

* Previous experience working with pupils displaying challenging behaviour, especially in relation to SEMH, Autism or ADHD

* A calm, reliable and empathetic approach to behaviour support and relationship building

* A genuine interest in sport, either personal or professional, to help foster rapport and engagement

* A current Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

* Commitment to the role for the remainder of the academic year, with the potential to continue in September

If you're a resilient, proactive Teaching Assistant or youth support professional looking to make a difference, we want to hear from you. Apply today and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss the next steps.
