Job summary

York College is seeking a Part Time Learning Support Practitioner to assist students with learning needs. The role includes in-class support, enabling curriculum access, and aiding mobility and personal care during campus and off-site activities.

Hours are variable: 2 days (Mon-Tue) or 3 days (Mon-Wed or Wed-Fri). Applicants should have Level 3 or higher and experience across autistic, emotional/behavioural, and disability support needs.

Qualifications

• Educated to Level 3 or above as a minimum.
• Experience supporting students with learning disabilities or difficulties is desirable.
• Experience with ICT and assistive technology is advantageous.
• Ability to promote independence and enable curriculum understanding.

Responsibilities

• Provide educational support to students across College.
• Assist teaching staff by supporting students and guiding learning.

Part Time Variable Hours Learning Support Practitioner

Hours: part-time variable**

Salary: £16.43 per hour inclusive of holiday pay*. Plus, Generous Occupational Pension Scheme

*the base hourly rate is £14.04 per hour, plus holiday pay, which gives an approximate hourly rate of £16.43 per hour.

About the role

Learning Support Practitioners provide educational support and care to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities across College.

• enable full understanding of the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning
• assist teaching staff by supporting students and guiding their learning
• help with mobility and personal care needs in College and on off-site visits

In addition to in-class support there may be opportunities or requirements to provide out of class support to students over lunch and break times and a requirement to proactively liaise with tutors.

We have the following working patterns available:

• 2 days per week Monday and Tuesday
• 3 days per week Monday - Wednesday
• 3 days per week Wednesday - Friday

About the Person

Applicants should be educated to Level 3 or above and should have skills in a number of the following areas:

• support for people on the autistic spectrum
• support for students with emotional and/or behavioural issues
• support for people with severe learning difficulties/disabilities
• support for people with medical conditions
• knowledge and understanding of ICT and assistive technology
• support for students with visual impairment
• support for students with hearing impairment
• mobility and personal care
• Promoting and supporting the independence of learners.

Flexibility, energy and enthusiasm are also important in this role. Candidates must be available to work during college term time.
