Job summary

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Northfleet is seeking a part-time teaching assistant to work Thursdays and Fridays under the class teacher’s guidance. You will support pupils, including those with SEND, with learning and interventions, explain concepts, and help with pastoral needs in a Catholic ethos.

Job description

Part-time teaching assistant post at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Northfleet, working Thursdays and Fridays under the class teacher. The work centres on helping pupils, including those with SEND, to access lessons and make progress through explanation, resources and planned interventions. As a Catholic school, the role also includes class prayer, pastoral support and breaktime supervision. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What the job involves

• Support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning under the class teacher's direction
• Support pupils with SEND to access the curriculum, following individual support and provision plans
• Deliver structured interventions and programmes planned by the teacher
• Help pupils understand instructions through explanation, modelling, scaffolding and resources
• Observe pupils' responses to learning, give feedback to the class teacher and contribute to assessment records
• Build positive relationships and uphold behaviour expectations in line with the school's policy
• Supervise pupils at breaktimes, lunchtimes and transitions
• Support pupils' emotional, pastoral and wellbeing needs and help resolve difficulties
• Support class prayer, liturgy and whole-school worship, and promote the Catholic ethos
• Work with teachers, the SENCo, parents, carers and visiting professionals
• Follow safeguarding policies and complete required safeguarding training
• Support educational visits and enrichment activities
