A vibrant educational institution in Chipping Barnet is recruiting a Teacher of Art to join the expressive arts faculty. The role involves inspiring students at all levels, including GCSE and A Level, within a supportive and creative environment. A passion for teaching and a commitment to student development are essential. The position offers a range of benefits, including professional development and contributions to pension schemes.
We are recruiting for a Teacher of Art (0.6 FTE/3 days a week or 0.8 FTE/4 days a week for the right candidate) to join our excellent Expressive Arts Faculty from January 2026.
East Barnet School (EBS) is a large, thriving, over-subscribed and diverse North London school where a belief in growth mindset underpins all aspects of school life. EBS is a supportive, creative and close-knit community where student behaviour is excellent and staff retention is high. An emphasis on both academic and pastoral support for staff and students has helped to shape our clearly defined culture and ethos which promotes wellbeing as well as success.
Integral to the school’s success is the adoption of innovative strategies to drive improvement, for example, the implementation of Disruption Free Learning to ensure a calm and orderly learning environment, which is frequently remarked upon by visitors.
Students at Key Stage 3 have the equivalent of one Art lesson each week and the subject is a popular choice at GCSE and A Level (Edexcel Fine Art), with a history of excellent academic results. We aim to instil and develop life-long skills of creativity, observation and communication in all students. We believe that an appreciation of art is essential for the personal development of young people; fostering empathy, reflection, and self-expression. Our students enjoy a wide range of art trips in London as well as further afield, such as Paris. The department offers extra-curricular opportunities for our students, as well as running whole school competitions and an annual art exhibition. There are 3 art studios, as well as a dedicated A Level room and an Art Gallery. As well as Fine Art, EBS also offers Photography (art endorsed) as one of the Design and Technology A Level options. Our Art department is very fortunate to have a permanent Artist in Residence who works with students to support and enhance their creativity and their learning experience.
