Job description

The Sustainable Procurement Lead will be responsible for embedding sustainable procurement practices across the organisation. The role will ensure that suppliers adopt Net Zero Carbon Tools and provide accurate carbon emissions data. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to efforts to maximise and measure the positive environmental impact of procurement and contracting activities.

Roles & Responsibilities -

This role will also provide strategic input and influence to carbon reduction planning and delivery, ensuring Procurement plays a central role in supporting broader sustainability objectives.

Develop and implement sustainable procurement strategies and practices aligned with organisational sustainability goals and Net Zero Carbon objectives.

Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the effective use of Net Zero Carbon Tools and the accurate reporting of carbon emissions data.

Actively participate in relevant task and finish groups and steering committees to support the implementation of carbon reduction initiatives.

Identify procurement-led opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and deliver added value through sustainable sourcing.

Support contract management with sustainability KPIs and monitor supplier compliance with environmental standards.

Work cross-functionally to integrate sustainability considerations into all stages of the procurement lifecycle.

Provide advice, guidance, and training to colleagues and stakeholders on sustainable procurement best practices.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sustainability regulations, frameworks, and innovations relevant to the sector.

Essential Skills and Experience -

Proven experience in procurement within a complex, cross-functional organisation.

Strong knowledge and practical application of sustainable procurement principles.

Experience working with sustainability frameworks, carbon reduction tools, and emissions data reporting.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Experience within the public sector, higher education, or similar regulated environments.

Relevant sustainability or environmental qualification (e.g., IEMA, CIPS Sustainable Procurement).
