You will be a dedicated professional with significant experience supporting students with a wide range of mental and physical health conditions, neurodiversity, and SpLDs-ideally within a Higher Education environment. You will demonstrate confidence in providing clear, informed guidance to both academic and administrative staff, regardless of their familiarity with disability legislation. A strong commitment to professional boundaries and a proven ability to support students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds are essential.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Inclusion Lead Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Assessor Role - Assessment of Needs
PURPOSE OF POST: To work on your own initiative to externally prescribed quality standards and become an integral part of a dynamic team. You will have the ability to research and complete high quality work to tight deadlines, supported by strong liaison and problem-solving skills.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
To facilitate disabled students in receiving appropriate study skills and technology support via the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). This includes annual review applications.
To interpret reports from medical and psychological practitioners in relation to students' support needs.
To assess the technology and study requirements of disabled students in relation to applications for DSA.
To produce comprehensive reports detailing findings and justifying recommendations taking due cognisance of relevant Scottish Government Toolkit of Quality Indicators.
To liaise with relevant members of the Inclusion service team in order to ensure that a high quality of service is maintained.
To maintain and organise the department equipment loan pool.
To undertake comprehensive assessments of needs for students in receipt of Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA).
To advise students in the use of suitable assistive technology, both through practical demonstration and written description.
To research appropriate technical and support solutions to meet the student's specific needs.
To make appropriate recommendations with regard to the learning environment. This may include tutor provision, reasonable adjustment to existing modes of assessment or alternative assessment provision.
To liaise closely with the Inclusion Coordinators regarding students with complex support needs.
To produce comprehensive Study Skills and Technology reports.
To make draft copies of reports available to the student for verification, updating the report as necessary on receipt of the student's comments.
To clarify any points or issues raised by the student's funding body.
To liaise with students to ensure that the implications of recommended support are understood and delivered effectively.
To undertake training and continued professional development.
To keep up to date with the evolution and practical application of assistive technology To maintain a working knowledge of relevant Disability legislation.
To work in accordance with the Inclusion Centre business plan and assist the department in achieving its objectives.
To undertake other duties commensurate with the role.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
Degree or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience
Knowledge and skills
Working knowledge and understanding of the Disabled Students' Allowance
Knowledge of relevant Equality legislation and understanding of reasonable adjustments and their application
Ability to research, acquire and apply knowledge pertaining to specific impairments.
Experience
Significant experience supporting students with a wide range of mental and physical health conditions, neurodiversity, and SpLDs
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
Working knowledge of physical or sensory impairments, disabling medical conditions, specific learning differences and mental health problems
Practical knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility options.
