Job description

  • Position: Part Time Senior Bookkeeper
  • Salary: £25-26 per hour or £26,000-£27,000 per year (for 20 hours work per week) plus very good company benefits, good pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and Christmas shut down in addition to holiday entitlement, company bonus (not guaranteed) plus medical health care cover after probationary 6 months
  • Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week (negotiable on what hours are worked per day). Home/hybrid based with attendance required at the Haywards Heath office around 2 days per week
  • Role based in Haywards Heath. There is some free parking on site available for staff, along with nearby street parking. the mainline railway station is also close by.

We are very pleased to be partnered with our successful, expanding and friendly client as they seek to recruit a Part Time Senior Bookkeeper to join their team in Mid Sussex. My client is highly thought of within their sector and offers an excellent environment and team in which to work. The role is mainly home based / hybrid and will require attendance at the offices in Haywards Heath around 2 days per month. You will need to be located close to the Haywards Heath area for the office based days.

This is a 20 hour per week, part time role, working 5 days per week, 4 hours per day – working hours are negotiable and could increase over time if the job holder can accommodate this. This is an excellent Part Time opportunity to join a very established, highly reputable and fun company.

The role – Part Time Senior Bookkeeper

My client is seeking to appoint a new Senior Bookkeeper to work with and support their current Finance Manager. They’re seeking someone who has good experience of working in a smaller business covering all areas required in the finance space and is ready to take the next step in their career in a role that offers variety, purpose and development.

The ideal candidate is organised, proactive and reliable—someone who stays one step ahead, communicates effectively, and ensures financial operations run smoothly.

Duties will include:

Purchase Ledger management, to include:

  • Approval and coding of supplier invoices
  • Coding expenses into event budgets
  • Cross-charging of expenses, where necessary
  • Ensure timely payment of all supplier invoices in accordance with bank limit
  • Creating/sending supplier remittance advices

Quickbooks and Bank management:

  • Creation of client quotes and invoices
  • Assisting with VAT returns
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Payment approvals

Budget management:

  • Ensure all accurate data entry into Quickbooks
  • Tracking activity via monthly timesheets
  • Run budget reports for project team to track spend
  • New vendor paperwork for new and existing clients

General Finance support

  • Tracking sponsorship revenue
  • Coding of expenses into event budgets
  • Managing expense payments
  • Raising and submitting remittance advices

Experience, competencies and knowledge required:

  • Proficient in accountancy software package QuickBooks or Xero
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking skills along with effective task prioritisation
  • Ability to work in a busy environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
