Job description

Prospero Teaching is recruiting experienced SEN Tutors to work with pupils across Cumbria, delivering 1:1 tuition in both Maths and English from KS1 through to KS4.

Our tutors support vulnerable pupils who are currently out of school, many of whom have Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role requires patience, flexibility, and a creative approach to re-engage students with learning.

Role Details:
  • Location: Lancashire (community settings or pupil homes, with safeguarding measures in place)
  • Hours: Approx. 10 - 20 per week (flexible between 9am - 4pm, term-time only)
  • Pay: £25 - £30 per hour, depending on experience
  • Contract: Ongoing, part-time, flexible
  • Subjects: Both Maths and English (tutors must be confident delivering both at an appropriate level)
  • Start date: ASAP
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with pupils with SEN/SEMH in the UK
  • Experience teaching/tutoring both Maths and English within the UK curriculum
  • QTS desirable, though strong SEN/tuition backgrounds will also be considered
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Ability to travel locally across Local regions in Cumbria
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable teaching style

This role offers a unique chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils who need support the most. You'll plan and deliver tailored 1:1 sessions in Maths and English, helping learners regain confidence, close knowledge gaps, and make real educational progress.

If you're a dedicated SEN professional who can deliver both core subjects and want the flexibility of part-time work, we'd love to hear from you!
